The PC DIll Pickle series

about the books

If your little reader likes to join in during storytime, then the interactive PC Dill Pickle series is for them! The series is about a Police Constable (PC) pickle who cracks cases in the fridge. But here's the best part - he doesn't do it alone - he enlists the help of 3-6 year-olds to piece together the clues while a bunch of colourful characters point them in the right direction.

With rhyming words and creative storylines, these books are fun for children and their grown-ups to read aloud. Not only that, PC Dill Pickle books show kids that it's cool to be curious when faced with challenges instead of automatically being scared. The Case Of The Missing Bear is the first book in the PC Dill Pickle series, with book 2, The Case of the Scary Sound, now on bookshelves too!

The creators

Hani Bruce (author) and Adam Shires (illustrator) released their first book, PC Dill Pickle - The Case Of The Missing Bear in 2022, with their second book, The Case of the Scary Sound now on bookshelves too!

Adam illustrates the books and is instrumental in exploring the story and character ideas with Hani. Together, they agree on an everyday situation or problem (like losing a toy) and plot out how characters can solve it through critical thinking and teamwork.

These rhyming books are fun to read and show children that many problems are solvable when they ask for help and work together.

    Courtney (Aus)

  • Our Ava is loving this book, it’s her new favourite 👏😍

    SJ (Aus)

  • The story was charming and followed a structure my child found easy to follow. The illustrations are excellent and the everyday nature of the items has ignited a newfound interest in the grocery shopping and contents of the fridge!

    Ross (UK)

  • Loved it! Can’t wait for the next one!

    Arlette (Aus)

  • This is a super cute book with fun rhyming using food-type characters that are familiar to many children.

    Christine B (USA)

  • Love this series of children's books. The characters are funny and are items that children can recognise from their own fridges.

    Liz (Aus)

  • The rhymes in this are great. They have the necessary rhythm and there's enough repetition for a small person to be able to catch on to. The "decoy" sounds along the way are really cute. The pictures are lovely.
